a wonderful little discovery

Today I had a wonderful little discovery - emotional, but wonderful!  While digging though boxes in the closet (all the while cursing my self for hanging on to this stuff for so long), I noticed a little book in the very bottom of one of the boxes.  When I pulled it out I recognized it without having to read the title.  Life's Little Instruction Book: 511 Suggestions, Observations, and Reminders on How to Live a Happy and Rewarding Life, by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.   It had belonged to my mom, and as a child I remember reading it over and over and over again.

When I was 17, my mom lost her battle with Leukemia.   I was at an age where I was just trying to find my way, an age when I needed the guidance of my mother, and I guess that need never goes away, because still to this day I find my self yearning for it - her passing left a deep wound in my heart.   So when I noticed that not only was this book a perfect inspiration for a new year, but that it still had the original torn newsprint bookmarks placed there by my mom, I felt tears start to trickle down my face.  Like her way of pointing me in the right direction.

This wonderful little discovery has provided me with just the guidance and reassurance I needed for the new year.   I now have a little instruction book (that I will keep close and read often) with my mom's bookmarked pages leading the way.  Miss you Mom!

  3. Sorry for your loss :( I remember reading this book as a kid, it was in my music teachers house, I would read it every week waiting on my lesson. Good memories, and good advice in there!
